Cookie Policy
We set the cookies that signing in requires, and Google Analytics sets cookies to count visits. This page lists everything.
1. Essential cookies
These cannot be switched off without breaking sign-in:
- Session cookie — identifies your browser's session so you stay signed in as you move between pages. It expires when the session does.
- XSRF-TOKEN — proves a form was submitted from our own pages, which is what stops cross-site request forgery.
- Remember-me cookie — set only if you ask to stay signed in, so you are not asked for your password on every visit.
One more is set only if you ask for it: ht_dns records that you opted out on the Do Not Sell or Share page, so every page asks for non-personalised adverts. It holds no identifier and lasts a year.
If you use the free tools without an account, free_uses counts how many times each one has been run, so the free-run limit can be applied. It lasts 30 days.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and tools are used. It sets _ga (distinguishes visitors, up to 2 years) and _ga_* (keeps the state of a visit, up to 2 years). Opting out on the Do Not Sell or Share page switches off Google signals and ad personalisation for your visits. You can block these cookies in your browser, or with Google's opt-out add-on, without affecting the site.
2. Storage the tools use
Some tools keep small values in your browser's own local storage — your last-used settings, and a note of who is signed in so the page can draw the header before the server answers. This never leaves your device and is not a cookie; clearing your browser data removes it.
3. Advertising cookies
The site shows no adverts, so no advertising cookie is ever set — not by us and not by any third party.
4. What we do not set
- No social-network or advertising pixels of our own.
- No cookie that records what you type into a tool or which file you opened.
5. Controlling cookies
Every browser lets you view, block and delete cookies from its settings, and most offer a mode that discards them when you close the window. Blocking the essential cookies above will stop you from signing in — the site cannot work without them.
