Why use this tool?
- Marketplaces and print-on-demand sites usually want products on a plain white background.
- A transparent PNG drops cleanly into a slide, a thumbnail or a design without a rectangle around it.
- Photos of people and pets are the hardest case for a colour-based cut-out, which is what the AI model is for.
How to use Remove Background
- Upload a photo, or drop one onto the tool.
- Pick the method: AI for people, animals and products; flat-colour lift for logos and screenshots on a solid background.
- Wait while the model runs. The first run downloads the model, so it takes longer than the ones after it.
- Touch up anything the model missed with the Erase and Restore brushes — zoom in to check the edge, undo if a stroke goes wrong.
- Replace the background with a colour or an image, or leave it transparent, then download the PNG at the photo's original resolution.

Supported formats
Accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. Saves as PNG so transparency survives.
Tips
- Even lighting and a clear gap between subject and background give the model the most to work with.
- For a logo on one solid colour, the flat-colour lift is faster and cleaner than the AI model.
- Save as PNG, not JPG — JPEG has no transparency and will fill it with black or white.
Frequently asked questions
Is the photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs there, so the image itself never leaves your device.
Why is the first cut-out slower?
The first run downloads the segmentation model to your browser. After that it is cached and every later image is much faster.
What file format should I save?
PNG. It is the format that keeps the transparent area transparent; saving as JPG fills it with a solid colour.
