Why use this tool?
- A logo that only exists as a small PNG looks soft on a banner or a printed sign; a vector version scales without pixelating.
- Cutting machines, embroidery and some print workflows need vector paths rather than a bitmap.
- Flat-colour artwork usually produces a vector smaller than the original image, which is useful for icons on a web page.
- Black-and-white tracing turns a scanned drawing or a signature into clean ink shapes on a transparent background.
How to use Image to SVG
- Drop an image onto the tool, or click to browse. Files up to 40 MB are accepted.
- The tool analyses the picture and shows what it detected: logo, illustration, line art or photo. Change Content type if the guess is wrong.
- Choose Colour or Black & white under Vector mode. In colour mode, set how many Colours to keep; the Detail and Smoothing sliders control how many shapes are traced and how rounded the curves are.
- For a picture on a solid background, tick Remove the solid background to get a transparent SVG. In black and white mode you can set the Threshold, Invert the tracing, and pick the Ink colour.
- Compare the original and the SVG in the preview, zooming if you want to check small details.
- Press Download SVG, or Copy SVG to paste the markup elsewhere.
Features
- Automatic detection of logo, illustration, line art or photo, with matching starting settings
- Colour tracing with a colour-count control, or black and white tracing with automatic or manual threshold
- Detail and Smoothing sliders, re-tracing as you move them
- Optional removal of a solid background so the SVG is transparent
- Output made of path elements with flat fills, with no embedded bitmap
- Zoomable split view against the original, plus path, node and file-size counts
- Download the file or copy the SVG code
Supported formats
Accepts PNG, JPG and WebP (the file picker also allows GIF and BMP), up to 40 MB. Produces an SVG file. HEIC photos must be converted to JPG first, and a file that is already an SVG is rejected.
Tips
- Logos, icons and flat illustrations trace best. A photo becomes a stylised, layered vector and can produce a large file.
- Fewer colours give cleaner, smaller files. If the result is much bigger than the source, lower the Detail or Colours.
- Start from the largest, cleanest version of the artwork you have; JPEG noise and blurry edges are traced faithfully.
- For a hand-drawn sketch or a signature, switch to Black & white and adjust the Threshold until the strokes are complete without filling in the gaps.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The tracing runs in a worker inside your browser, so the image stays on your device.
Will a photo turn into a realistic vector?
No. A photo becomes a stylised, layered set of colour shapes. The tool is aimed at logos, icons, illustrations and line art.
Is the SVG just my image embedded inside an SVG wrapper?
No. The output contains only path elements with flat fills and no embedded bitmap, so it can be edited shape by shape in a vector editor.
How do I get a transparent background?
If the image already has transparency it is kept. For a solid background, tick Remove the solid background. Black and white mode always traces only the ink, so its background is transparent.
Why is my SVG larger than the PNG?
Detailed or photographic images need many paths. Reduce Detail or the number of Colours, or use a simpler source, and the file size drops.
Can I trace an SVG or a HEIC photo?
An SVG is already vector, so the tool tells you there is nothing to trace. For a HEIC photo, convert it to JPG first.
Can I try this Pro tool without an account?
Yes. Trace your image and compare a 640 pixel preview free. Pro downloads and copies the real SVG. Your own input is processed locally in your browser.
Will upgrading keep my work?
Checkout and login open in a separate tab. Keep the workspace open to retain inputs, settings and previews. Files stay in that tab only; keep the originals in case you close or reload it. Export access is checked with the server after payment.
Your files are processed directly in your browser and are not uploaded to HubToolify's servers.
