Why use this tool?
- Retyping a heading because it was pasted in capitals, or a variable name because it needs to be snake_case instead of camelCase, is slow and easy to get wrong.
- Code, file names and URLs each follow a different convention, and one source phrase often has to appear in several of them.
- Text copied from PDFs and emails tends to arrive with double spaces, ragged line edges and repeated lines that need clearing before it is reused.
- Seeing every style side by side is quicker than switching a dropdown back and forth to find the one you want.
How to use Case Converter
- Type or paste your text into the Text to convert box. The character, word and line counts update as you go.
- Tick any of the options under Clean up first if the source needs it: Collapse repeated spaces, Trim each line, Remove blank lines, Remove duplicate lines or Strip accents.
- Scroll through the list of conversions on the right. Each one is a live result for the text as cleaned.
- Press Copy beside the style you want.
- Press Use beside a result to make it the new source text, so you can chain one conversion into another, for example Title Case and then URL slug.
Features
- Seventeen conversions at once: UPPER CASE, lower case, Title Case, Capitalise Every Word, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE, Train-Case, dot.case, path/case, URL slug, aLtErNaTiNg, iNVERSE cASE and Reversed
- Title Case keeps short words such as a, the, of and to in lower case unless they start or end the text
- Programming cases split words at spaces, punctuation and at camelCase boundaries, so an existing helloWorldFoo becomes hello_world_foo
- URL slug removes accents and joins lower-case words with hyphens
- Five clean-up passes, applied in order before every conversion
- Live character, word and line counts
- Copy any result with one click, or send it back to the source with Use
Supported formats
Takes any plain text you can paste, in any language with upper and lower case letters. The output is plain text copied to your clipboard; nothing is saved to a file.
Tips
- Tick Strip accents before the URL slug or snake_case result if you want plain ASCII; the slug already strips them, the other styles keep accented letters otherwise.
- Title Case is a style-guide approximation based on a fixed list of small words. Check proper nouns and acronyms by hand, because the text is lower-cased first.
- Remove duplicate lines compares lines ignoring capitals and surrounding spaces, and keeps the first occurrence, so it is a quick way to clean a pasted list.
- Use Reversed only for mirrored text effects; it reverses characters, not words.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Title Case and Capitalise Every Word?
Capitalise Every Word raises the first letter of every word. Title Case leaves small words such as and, of, the and to in lower case unless they are the first or last word.
Does it work with camelCase input?
Yes. Before building snake_case, kebab-case and similar styles it splits words at the point where a lower-case letter meets a capital, so userProfileName becomes user_profile_name.
Why did my acronyms turn into lower case?
Most conversions lower-case the text first so the result is consistent. An acronym like NASA will be written as Nasa in Title Case, and you will need to correct it by hand.
How does Sentence case decide where a sentence starts?
It capitalises the first letter of the text and the first letter after a full stop, exclamation mark or question mark followed by a space. Abbreviations that end in a full stop will also trigger a capital.
Can I convert several lines at once?
Yes. Line breaks are kept by the case-changing styles. The programming styles such as snake_case treat the whole text as one phrase and join every word, including words from separate lines.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversions are calculated in your browser as you type.
Can I try this Pro tool without an account?
Yes. Convert and copy up to 2,000 characters free. Pro removes this preview limit and adds downloads. Your own input is processed locally in your browser.
