Why use this tool?

  • A photo of a receipt, contract or form often has shadows and a grey cast that make it look poor when printed or emailed.
  • Several pages can be gathered into one PDF instead of a pile of separate photos.
  • Presets for documents, whiteboards, ID cards and photos set sensible contrast and colour for each.
  • The pages are processed on your device, which matters for documents with personal details.

How to use Document Scanner

  1. On a phone, press Open camera, allow camera access and frame the page. Choose Document, Whiteboard, ID card or Photo at the top, then tap the shutter button. Press Done when finished.
  2. On a computer, press Import photos and choose pictures you have already taken. A QR code on the page opens the tool on your phone.
  3. Drag the corners of the crop frame in to the edges of the paper, use Rotate if the page is sideways, or press Whole photo to reset the crop.
  4. Under Result, pick Scan, Greyscale or Colour and fine-tune Brightness, Contrast and, in Scan mode, the Ink threshold.
  5. Reorder pages with the arrows or delete ones you do not want.
  6. Press Save PDF, or Save this page as PNG for the page you are editing.

Features

  • Live rear-camera capture on a phone, plus photo import
  • Four presets: Document, Whiteboard, ID card and Photo
  • Three looks: Scan (black and white), Greyscale and Colour
  • Local adaptive thresholding, so a shadow across the page does not turn half of it black
  • Adjustable crop rectangle, rotation, and page reordering and deletion
  • Up to 30 pages per document, assembled into an A4 PDF
  • Settings apply to every page so the document looks even

Supported formats

Accepts image files from the camera or the import button. Saves a PDF on A4 pages named scan- followed by the date, or a single page as a PNG.

Tips

  • Hold the phone square over the page. The crop is a rectangle and there is no automatic perspective correction, so a photo taken at an angle stays angled.
  • Light the page evenly and avoid your own shadow. Scan mode copes with gradients but not with a hard shadow across the text.
  • If thin writing disappears in Scan mode, raise the Ink threshold; if the paper turns speckled, lower it.
  • Use Colour for anything where colour matters, such as a stamp or an ID card, because Scan converts the page to pure black and white.

Frequently asked questions

Are my scans uploaded?

No. The camera image goes straight to a canvas and the PDF is built in your browser, so the pages are not sent to a server.

Why does the page tell me to use a phone?

A laptop webcam faces you, not the desk, so a page held up to it comes out soft and skewed. On a computer you can still import photos you already took.

Does it straighten a page photographed at an angle?

No. It crops to a rectangle but does not correct perspective, so hold the phone directly above the page.

How many pages can one PDF hold?

Up to 30 pages.

What does Scan mode do?

It turns the page into black ink on white paper, comparing each pixel with its surroundings so uneven lighting is evened out. Greyscale and Colour keep more tones.

The camera will not start. What should I do?

Check that you allowed camera access in your browser settings. If the browser has no camera, use Import photos instead.

Can I try this Pro tool without an account?

Yes. Scan up to 2 pages and review them at 640 pixels. Pro scans up to 30 pages and saves the PDF or PNG. Your own input is processed locally in your browser.

Will upgrading keep my work?

Checkout and login open in a separate tab. Keep the workspace open to retain inputs, settings and previews. Files stay in that tab only; keep the originals in case you close or reload it. Export access is checked with the server after payment.

Your files are processed directly in your browser and are not uploaded to HubToolify's servers.
