Why use this tool?
- YouTube limits the tag field to 500 characters including separators, and anything past that is dropped from the end.
- Most tag lists online are far too long to use; a ranked list that stops at the limit is easier to paste.
- Typing every phrasing of a topic by hand is slow, and tags still help with misspellings and topics that share a word.
- An old tag list may contain duplicates or a pile of single words that waste the budget.
How to use YouTube Tag Generator
- In Generate mode, type your Video title.
- Add Keywords, separated by commas. The tool expands each one and pairs them with each other.
- Optionally add a Brand and a Channel name.
- Watch the Budget used meter on the right. Tags are pre-selected in rank order until the 500 characters are used.
- Click a tag chip to add or remove it; chips that would exceed the budget are greyed out.
- Copy the list under Ready to paste, and paste it into the Tags field in YouTube Studio under Show more. Use Check tags you have for an existing list.

Supported formats

Tips
- Three or four precise keywords work better than twenty vague ones, because every keyword is multiplied into variations.
- Do not add names of other creators or unrelated trending terms; the tool warns this breaks YouTube's spam policy.
- Phrases of two or three words are generally more useful than single words, which are the most competitive.
- The commas count toward the 500, so the meter will read higher than the letters alone.
Frequently asked questions
What is YouTube's tag limit?
The tool uses 500 characters for the entire tag field, with the commas and spaces between tags counted. It selects only as many tags as fit.
Do tags still help a video rank?
Only a little. The tool notes that YouTube has said they play a minimal role, mostly catching misspellings and clarifying ambiguous topics; your title, description and thumbnail matter more.
Is my title or keyword list uploaded?
No. The tags are produced in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
Does it find tags that other videos use?
No. It does not look up competitor videos or search volumes; suggestions come from rules applied to your own title and keywords.
What happens if my existing list is over 500 characters?
The checker shows the total and warns that anything past the limit is dropped from the end when you save, so the last tags do nothing.
Why are some tags greyed out?
Adding them would push the total past 500 characters. Remove another tag first to make room.
