Why use this tool?
- Spaces, ampersands and non-English characters cannot appear raw in a URL, and a single unescaped character in a link can break a request.
- Encoding a whole address and encoding a single value are different operations, and using the wrong one is a common source of bugs.
- Long marketing links are hard to read, and separating out each parameter shows what the link is passing.
- Tracking parameters often get shared along with a link by accident, and it is cleaner to remove them first.
How to use URL Encoder
- Choose a mode: encodeURIComponent, encodeURI or Decode.
- Paste text or a URL into URL or text. The converted version appears in the Result panel straight away.
- Use Copy in the Result panel to take the converted text.
- If the input is a full URL, check the Parsed URL table and the list of Query parameters. Edit a Key or Decoded value, use Add to create a new one, or Remove to delete one.
- If the page finds tracking parameters, press Strip them to delete them in one step.
- Copy the Rebuilt URL, or press Use this URL above to replace the input with it.
Features
- Encode with encodeURIComponent for a single value, or encodeURI for a whole address
- Decode percent-escapes back to readable text, with plus signs treated as spaces
- Counts the escaped characters and shows the size before and after
- Shows protocol, host, port, path and hash for a valid URL
- Editable table of query parameters with add, edit and remove
- Finds common tracking parameters such as utm_ values, fbclid, gclid and msclkid
- Rebuilds the URL from your edited parameters
Supported formats
Text in and text out. To use the parser and the parameter table, the input must be a complete URL beginning with a scheme such as https://.
Tips
- Use encodeURIComponent for a value that goes inside a query string, such as a search phrase. Use encodeURI for a whole link, because it leaves characters like / ? & = in place.
- In the parameter table, you type values in their normal readable form. The rebuilt URL encodes them for you, writing a space as +.
- Rebuilding a URL re-encodes its query string in the browser's standard style, so it may look slightly different from the original even if you change nothing.
- If Decode reports a malformed escape, look for a stray % sign that is not followed by two hex digits.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?
encodeURIComponent also escapes characters that have a meaning inside a URL, such as / ? & = and #, so it is for one value. encodeURI leaves those alone so a whole address stays usable.
Why does decoding turn plus signs into spaces?
In form data and many query strings a plus sign stands for a space. The decoder replaces + with a space before decoding the percent-escapes.
Why is there no URL table for my text?
The table appears only when the input is a complete, valid URL including its scheme, such as https://example.com/page. Text without one is just converted.
Which tracking parameters does it detect?
Anything starting with utm_, and fbclid, gclid, gbraid, wbraid, msclkid, mc_eid, mc_cid, igshid, ref_src, _ga, yclid and ttclid. Other parameters are left alone, so review the rest yourself.
Why does the decode say the string is malformed?
It contains a percent sign that is not followed by two hexadecimal digits, or a sequence that is not valid UTF-8, so it cannot be turned back into text.
Is the URL sent to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser, and the link is not requested or opened.
Can I try this Pro tool without an account?
Yes. Encode, decode and parse up to 3,000 characters free. Pro removes this limit. Your own input is processed locally in your browser.
Will upgrading keep my work?
Checkout and login open in a separate tab. Keep the workspace open to retain inputs, settings and previews. Files stay in that tab only; keep the originals in case you close or reload it. Export access is checked with the server after payment.
Your files are processed directly in your browser and are not uploaded to HubToolify's servers.
