Why use this tool?

  • Copying from a PDF viewer often drags in line breaks, page furniture or half a column; extracting once gives you clean text to paste anywhere.
  • A long report or contract is faster to search as plain text, and the tool counts how many times a word appears and on which pages.
  • Invoices and statements are laid out as tables, and layout mode keeps each row of the table on one line instead of scattering the cells.
  • The document details panel shows the title, author and producing software stored inside the file, which is useful when you are checking where a PDF came from.

How to use PDF Text Extractor

  1. Drop a PDF onto the box that says "Drop a PDF here or click to browse". Extraction starts as soon as the file is chosen.
  2. To read only part of the document, type a range such as 1-3, 7, 12-15 into the Pages (optional) field. Leave it empty for every page.
  3. Tick "Reconstruct the page layout" for tables, invoices and multi-column pages, then press Extract again so the setting is applied.
  4. Read the result under Extracted text. Use the All pages or Page by page switch, and type a word into "Find in the text" to see which pages contain it.
  5. Press the copy button, or the download button to save the text as a .txt file named after your PDF.

Features

  • Page range input that accepts single pages and ranges, such as 1-3, 7, 12-15
  • Optional layout mode that groups text by its position on the page and sorts each row left to right
  • A "Mark page boundaries in the output" option that inserts a "--- Page N ---" line before each page
  • Page by page view with a separate copy button for each page
  • Search box that counts matches and lists the pages they are on
  • Counts for pages read, words and characters
  • Document details: title, author, subject, creator, producer and PDF version when the file contains them
  • Download as a .txt file

Supported formats

Accepts PDF files up to 60 MB. The output is plain text, which you can copy or download as a .txt file.

Tips

  • Leave layout mode off for ordinary prose; it is meant for tables and columns and can add or change spacing in running text.
  • If you get a message that no selectable text was found, the PDF is probably a scan, which is a picture of text. It needs OCR, not extraction.
  • Extract only the pages you need on a big document; it finishes sooner and the result is easier to search.
  • A password-protected PDF cannot be read here. Remove the password first with the PDF Protect & Unlock tool, if you know it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The file is parsed inside your browser tab with pdf.js and no copy is sent to HubToolify.

Why does it say no selectable text was found?

The PDF most likely contains scanned page images rather than real text. Extraction can only read text that is stored in the file, so a scan needs an OCR tool.

What does the layout option change?

It groups pieces of text that sit on the same baseline into one row and orders them left to right. That keeps table rows and side-by-side columns readable, but ordinary paragraphs read better with it off.

Is there a size limit?

Yes, PDFs over 60 MB are refused because very large files can exhaust the browser tab.

Can I read a password-protected PDF?

No. The tool reports that the file is password protected and stops. Unlock it first, then extract.

Can I extract only certain pages?

Yes. Enter pages or ranges separated by commas in the Pages field. If the range falls outside the document, the tool tells you how many pages the file has.

Can I try this Pro tool without an account?

Yes. Extract and copy the text of the first 2 pages free. Pro reads every page and downloads the text. Your own input is processed locally in your browser.

Will upgrading keep my work?

Checkout and login open in a separate tab. Keep the workspace open to retain inputs, settings and previews. Files stay in that tab only; keep the originals in case you close or reload it. Export access is checked with the server after payment.

Your files are processed directly in your browser and are not uploaded to HubToolify's servers.
