Why use this tool?
- Single-word counts are dominated by "the" and "and" unless stop words are removed, which is why most density reports tell you nothing.
- People search in phrases. A two or three-word count says what the page is about; a single-word count rarely does.
- Where a keyword appears outweighs how often. The title, the first paragraph and a heading each do more than another repetition in the footer.
- Repetition that reads badly costs you readers regardless of what any algorithm thinks.
How to use Keyword Density Checker
- Paste the page text, or the rendered HTML — tags are stripped and headings are picked up automatically.
- Add the title, URL and target keyword if you have them.
- Switch between single words, two-word and three-word phrases.
- Read the placement rows first, then look for anything above 4% in the table.
Features
- One, two and three-word phrase frequency
- Stop-word filtering with phrases that never start or end on filler
- Target keyword placement: title, URL, first 100 words and headings
- Whole-word matching, so "car" is not counted inside "carpet"
- CSV export of the whole report
Tips
- Read any phrase above 4% aloud. If it survives that, it is fine; if it does not, it was never helping.
- Below about 300 words the percentages swing wildly. Read the counts instead.
- A target keyword missing from the title is worth more attention than any density figure on the page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good keyword density?
There is no target to aim for. Search engines stopped ranking on term frequency alone well over a decade ago, and the "1–2%" rule is folklore. Density is still useful for spotting a page so repetitive that it reads badly, which is the thing that genuinely costs you.
Does keyword stuffing still get pages penalised?
Deliberate stuffing can, but the ordinary cost is simpler: the page reads badly and people leave. Write for the reader and the density looks after itself.
Is my content uploaded?
No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser, which matters because unpublished drafts are exactly what people paste into a tool like this.
Can I try this Pro tool without an account?
Yes. Analyse up to 5,000 characters of text free and copy the CSV. Longer pages and the CSV download require Pro. Your own input is processed locally in your browser.
Will upgrading keep my work?
Checkout and login open in a separate tab. Keep the workspace open to retain inputs, settings and previews. Files stay in that tab only; keep the originals in case you close or reload it. Export access is checked with the server after payment.
